Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a heartwarming message for Tom Brady during the latter’s special evening on Wednesday night…but it wasn’t exactly well-received by New England Patriots fans.
On Wednesday, Tom Brady was inducted into the New England Patriots’ Hall of Fame ceremony. During the ceremony, many NFL legends who played against Brady had congratulatory messages shared on the video board, including Patrick Mahomes, Ray Lewis, and Michael Strahan.
But when Mahomes’ face and video message came up on the big screen, Patriots fans responded by booing the three-time Super Bowl champion:
Football fans had the same response towards the Patriots’ faithful booing Mahomes, accusing the fanbase of being fearful, jealous and bitter of the 28-year-old quarterback:
Patrick Mahomes went 3-3 in his career against Tom Brady, though the latter went 2-0 in their playoff meetings (the 2018 AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl 54). Brady went 2-1 vs. Mahomes as a Patriot, though No. 15 is now 3-2 against the AFC East club after winning the last three meetings.
Brady’s No. 12 has been retired by the franchise forever, and owner Robert Kraft announced that a 12-foot-tall Brady statue will be placed in front of Gillette Stadium this upcoming season, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Are The New Golden NFL Franchise
The Patriots were the NFL’s model organization during the Brady-Bill Belichick era, winning nine AFC Championships and six Super Bowls.
But as Patriots fans are learning, nothing lasts forever. It’s been five years now since the organization won its last Super Bowl. Since that time, Kansas City has won four AFC Championships and three Super Bowls.
It’s obviously not easy for Patriots fans to see their team fall to the bottom of the standings while watching another team (an AFC rival, no less) emerge as the new dynasty. Plus if you’re a Patriots fan, you’re likely cheering against Mahomes so that he doesn’t close the gap on Brady in the “GOAT” debate.
