Caitlin Clark got a mention during Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night.
The NBA season is officially over, with the Boston Celtics toppling the Dallas Mavericks in five games to win their 18th championship.
Doris Burke and Mike Breen were on the call for ESPN on the night, and the former would make a joke about the WNBA rookie during the broadcast.
At one point in the game, P.J. Washington pulled Kristaps Porzingis to the floor after wrapping his arms around the Celtics big man.
“If that were Caitlin Clark, it might spark a debate for a week,” Burke quipped, getting a laugh out of Breen.
Check it out in the clip below:
“Caitlin Clark might break a record for living rent free in peoples heads. Lmao,” a fan observed.
“Catlin Clark getting talked about during the NBA Finals is wild 😂
“No female basketball player has ever been mentioned during a telecast she really is a cultural phenomenon,” another offered.
“Haha yeah I can see why people would be talking about that! Physical play is always going to bring up some strong opinions,”
Doris Burke Doesn’t Seem To Feel Like Caitlin Clark Is Being Targeted
The jury is still out on Caitlin Clark’s treatment in the WNBA. There’s a debate over whether she’s being targeted or just dealing with the physicality that comes with the territory.
The former Iowa star took another hard hit over the weekend, with rival Angel Reese swiping her in the head on a layup attempt.
It appears that Burke thinks the whole thing is overblown, given that she made light of it during an NBA Finals game.
