The on-court rivalry between star Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark went to another level on Sunday.

The Indiana Fever hosted the Chicago Sky, and it featured yet another hard foul. This marked the second time the teams had faced off this season and the second time controversy followed the game.

The intensity of the game went up a notch when Caitlin Clark drove to the basket, but she was struck in the head by Reese during a layup attempt. Referees reviewed the play and assessed Reese with a flagrant 1.

Angel Reese impressed with another double-double during the Chicago Sky’s 91-83 loss to the Indiana Fever, per ESPN, but she was none too thrilled about the flagrant foul she received for attempting to make a basketball play on Clark.

After the game, Reese called out the refs for their actions, “Basketball play, I can’t control the refs,” she told reporters when asked about the play in question. “They affected the game, obviously, a lot today.”

Since their college days, anything involving Reese and Clark is going to receive additional attention.

The two forever changed the direction of women’s sports when they played each other in the 2023 national championship game in college. Angel Reese led her LSU Tigers to a victory and then caused major controversy when she celebrated by pointing to her ring finger and breaking out the “you can’t see me” celebration that Clark had pulled out in that same tournament.

The following season, Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes earned some revenge with an Elite Eight win over LSU as they went back to the National Championship game. Unfortunately, she would lose yet again.

The rivalry went to another level when they faced off in their first WNBA game in June. The Fever won 71-70 in a game that featured Sky guard Chennedy Carter knocking Clark to the ground and receiving a flagrant foul.

The two teams will face one another at least two more times this year.
