The journey concluded in Paris, France, and Taylor Swift’s global tour, the Eras Tour, moved to Lisbon on May 24. However, the first performance in Portugal didn’t start smoothly as fans had to wait longer than expected in scorching weather to enter Estádio da Luz stadium.
This delay frustrated those who had been queuing for a long time, leading to shouts of “Let us in.”
The situation escalated further when 200 fans broke through barriers, bypassed security gates, and entered the stadium, alarming security personnel.
A security staff member recounted: “There was a lot of pushing in the crowd. They broke through the barriers. There were only two security guards outside, so security forces had to be deployed to deal with the unruly fans. They started shouting ‘Let us in, let us in.’ Fans were in a frenzy due to the delay. People were pushing and shouting. The staff were quite anxious, fearful of the situation. I don’t know what caused the delay, but we had to wait for VIP guests to enter, while other fans had to wait.”
The scorching weather was cited as a reason for fans being more prone to outbursts of anger than usual.
