REPORT: Legendary Retired NFL QB Emerges as Front-Runner To Become Browns’ New Starter Following Deshaun Watson’s Injury

On Wednesday morning, the Cleveland Browns announced that starting quarterback Deshaun Watson will be out for the year as he prepares to undergo shoulder surgery to fix a broken bone in his right throwing shoulder.

The Browns are sitting at 6-3 and just half a game out of first place in the AFC North. Backup QB P.J. Walker has struggled in the five games he’s played this year, so the Browns should definitely look to add another QB for their postseason push.

Could we see a certain GOAT come out of retirement and join the Browns in their quest to win the franchise’s first Super Bowl? Crazy as it sounds, BetOnline actually lists retired signal-caller Tom Brady as the +300 favorite to be the next quarterback signed by the Browns.

2012 second overall pick Robert Griffin III has the second-best odds at +400 (he played for the Browns in 2016), followed by former MVP Matt Ryan (+600) and Super Bowl 52 hero and MVP Nick Foles (+600).

Griffin, Ryan and Foles aren’t officially retired, so those three definitely are more realistic options for Cleveland than Brady. Despite another stellar season at the age of 45 a year ago, Brady decided to walk away from the game once and for all.

It’s hard to envision Brady wanting to suddenly come out of retirement now for half a season. He’d have little time to learn the Browns’ offensive playbook, not to mention getting himself in prime game shape.

But hey, Brady did un-retire once, and crazier things have happened.
