Caitlin Clark Makes History Never Seen Before in WNBA, NBA

Caitlin Clark delivered a performance for the ages in the Indiana Fever’s 89-84 loss to the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.

Clark’s stat line of 29 points, five rebounds, 13 assists, five steals and three blocks marked an unprecedented achievement, making her the first player in the history of both the WNBA and NBA to record such numbers in a single game (h/t StatMamba on X, formerly Twitter).

Despite the Fever’s defeat, Clark’s play was the highlight of the game. She started strong, assisting Katie Lou Samuelson for an early layup and following it up with a three-pointer, helping Indiana to a quick 5-0 lead. However, the Mystics responded with a 10-0 run, taking control of the game.

Washington’s defense was dominant in the first quarter, forcing eight turnovers and building a 26-17 lead behind Stefanie Dolson’s seven points. The Mystics extended their lead with a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, showcasing excellent ball movement and tough defense. By halftime, Washington was up 51-37, led by Ariel Atkins with 13 points (h/t Greg Finberg of BulletsForvever).

Indiana fought back in the third quarter, with Clark’s playmaking bringing the Fever within eight points. The game took a turn when a challenge by Mystics coach Eric Thibault reversed an and-1 call on Aliyah Boston, resulting in Boston’s fifth foul.

In the final quarter, Clark led a furious comeback, draining multiple threes and cutting the deficit to just three points. Despite her efforts, Washington held on for the win, with Atkins scoring 26 points
