Jennifer Lopez isn’t just a great source of fitness inspiration. She’s also giving us some athleisure inspiration, by way of pop-culture-inspired activewear brand Niyama Sol.
Chances are, you remember the dress. Lopez wore a tropical, green Versace gown with a neckline that plunged past her bellybutton to the Grammys in 2000, and it was instantly iconic. In fact, the dress inspired Google Image Search; the day after the Grammys, Lopez’s dress was “the most popular search query” Google had ever seen. In response, Google had the idea to let users search for images. So the dress has made not only fashion history, but also tech history.
Now, activewear brand Niyama Sol is selling limited edition leggings in a print based on the famous Versace number. “We noticed that Jennifer had been quietly wearing our leggings for over a year,” Allison Hart, Niyama Sol creative director and co-founder, tells SELF. “She had been spotted nearly everywhere, in all types of fitness or street looks, pairing our leggings with her everyday looks to rehearsals, to coffee dates, and to her workouts.” Hart decided that Lopez “epitomized what [they] wanted the brand to represent: wearability from studio to street with ease.”
The decision to create a pair of leggings based on Lopez’s dress was “natural for us,” says Hart. “[The Versace-inspired print] is basically our thank you to her for making our leggings more of a household name.”
