It’s the perfect weather for camping and sitting by a bonfire, and Jennifer Garner is taking advantage of it. In a recent installment of her #PretendCookingShow on Instagram, the actor is seen stretching out of her tent in the great outdoors and making an easy, oven-free breakfast for the kids.

“I am making them a little breakfast: hash browns,” she shares in the video. With her KitchenAid Go Cordless System, she is able to finely dice her potatoes with ease, even outside. But breakfast doesn’t end at cr ispy browns, as Garner also highlights a quick five-ingredient smoothie that’s almost impossible to mess up.

Here’s how to make Garner’s simple breakfast that takes minimal effort but doesn’t skip out on nutritional value.

Garner quarters her potatoes before adding them into the KitchenAid to break down. She then places her chopped potatoes in a cheesecloth.

“Moisture and browning are not friends, don’t even try,” she explains before squeezing out the starchy liquid from the potatoes.

She then divides the potatoes to make half of the hash browns with cheese and the other half with no cheese. She seasons both batches with onion powder and puts them on the grill hot pan with olive oil to brown up.

“The trick is to let this cook without touching it until it browns,” Garner says.

While the potatoes are cooking, the Deadpool & Wolverine star makes herself a smoothie. It’s simply five ingredients: a banana, strawberries, ground flaxseed, peanut butter and almond milk. She also adds ice to make it cold, smooth and refreshing. She blends up her smoothie in her cordless blender and immediately serves it.

After flipping her potatoes and seasoning with salt and pepper, Garner plates her hash browns and garnishes them with chives. With sour cream and ketchup on the side, she adds some protein to each plate with a seasoned sunny-side-up egg.

We love how simple and nutritious this breakfast is. Potatoes are a satisfying carb that will help keep you fuller for longer, and eggs are a complete protein that will add to that satisfaction, as well as provide other benefits like supporting bone health and muscle growth. Plus, Garner’s easy strawberry-banana smoothie is packed with fiber from the fruit and flaxseed, which can support your digestive system, assist your heart health and more.

Overall, we’re fans of this balanced breakfast, and we may also go ahead and make Garner’s go-to lunch in the afternoon for a Jen-approved day!
