A GOAT knows a GOAT when they see one! So is the case with Tom Brady. For his fans, Brady surely has a precise eye for the ball. But that’s not all. Besides the ball, Brady also has a good eye for recognizing legendary talent, like Serena Williams. Precisely the reason why the GOAT of the NFL tipped his hat for the GOAT of tennis.
On July 10, ‘In The Arena: Serena Williams‘ released its first episode on ESPN+ after its mega release in the Tribeca Festival premiere. Tom Brady, honoring the legacy of Serena Williams, reposted the trailer of Williams’ journey from the courts of Compton to the world stage on his Instagram story, giving a shout-out to fellow GOAT. The trailer shared by Brady was a clip from Tom Brady’s production house, Religion of Sports’ Instagram page.
Co-founded in 2017 by Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Gotham Chopra, the Religion of Sports is ‘well into eight figures’ valuation per Forbes in 2022, which means above $10 million. The media house also gave a shout-out to Serena Williams ‘In the Arena: Serena Williams‘ by posting a clip of it, giving the fans a sneak peek into what they are in store for.
The intimate docuseries gives fans a glimpse into everything behind the scenes in the life of Serena Williams. Right from her childhood struggles to her lifting the Grand Slam trophy 23 times, the ESPN+ docuseries throw light on the journey of Williams. The first 3 episodes of the eight-part docuseries ‘In the Arena: Serena Williams’ are already up on ESPN+ for the fans to binge.
Gotham Chopra, the co-founder of Religion of Sports, is also the director of this series. “I’m in the business of GOATs. I’ve always enjoyed working with the greatest and trying to deconstruct the components of greatness,
A Man in the Arena: Tom Brady
Produced by ESPN Films, Religion of Sports, and 199 production house ‘A Man in the Arena: Tom Brady’ is the docuseries on the life of Brady, focusing particularly on his greatness on the gridiron as the Patriots starting QB. The 10-part series was also released on ESPN+ in 2022.
Back when it was released, Tom Brady gave an explicit explanation about the name of his series. “We had different working titles for it, and I always thought [Man in the Arena] was a really cool name for a show. That particular quote was a Theodore Roosevelt quote, and that was in the weight room at Michigan when I first got there. And I saw it every day. I always thought, ‘Wow, in so many ways you become that man in the arena’,” Brady said, recalling his college days in Michigan.
“I thought it fit very perfectly with what the purpose of this project was really supposed to be about,” Tom Brady expressed, iterating how Roosevelt’s quote is a perfect representation of the turmoil and intense scrutiny and pressure that a player goes through every day. While there was not much hype surrounding the series of Tom Brady, calling it a mere ‘celebration of Tom Brady’s seasons with the Patriots‘ and something which would ‘not blow you away’, the fans have higher expectations from Serena Williams’ series.
