Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky teammates believe she should be taken more seriously in the race for Rookie of the Year in the WNBA.
On Friday night, Reese dropped a career-high 27 points with ten rebounds to record her twelfth straight double-double.
That ties a streak that was previously held by Candace Parker that was racked up over a decade ago between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Chennedy Carter, who led the team with 33 points in Chicago’s win over Seattle, told the ION broadcast after the game that Reese deserves to be the front-runner to be recognized as the league’s best youngster.
‘Barbie’s Rookie of the Year. There’s no other way to put it, ‘ said Carter.

Reese is one of the front runners, but faces some stiff competition from Indiana’s Caitlin Clark
‘She goes out, she does her work every single night, no matter what team we’re facing. I’m telling you, Barbie’s Rookie of the Year, for sure.’
Reese will have some stiff competition for the honor – with the likes of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark also fighting for the award.
On Saturday, Clark scored the first triple-double ever by a rookie in the history of the WNBA. She dropped 19 points in a victory over the New York Liberty.
It’s yet another thing to notch on her belt in her ever-growing rivalry with Reese that has seen attendances rise all season long.
Reese averages 13.9 points a game and leads the league with 11.7 rebounds per game.
Clark is among the league’s top scorers and assisters, but has had issues with turnovers.
The two will play on the same team when their Team WNBA takes on Team USA at the WNBA All-Star Game on July 20.
