CAITLIN CLARK 1ST ROOKIE IN WNBA HISTORY WITH TRIPLE-DOUBLE (19pts/13ast/12reb) | WNBA Highlights.
Fever vs. Liberty score: Caitlin Clark, Indiana rally in fourth quarter to take down Breanna Stewart, New York
The Fever ripped off 11 straight points in the fourth to mount a major comeback win at home.
The Indiana Fever secured their most impressive win of the season on Saturday when they pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the league-leading New York Liberty, 83-78, on CBS. In the process, No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history and first player in Fever franchise history to record a triple-double.
With Clark leading the way, the Fever jumped out to an early double-digit lead. Slowly but surely, however, the Liberty worked their way back into the contest, and showed why they entered the game with a 17-3 record. By the fourth quarter, the Liberty had pushed their lead up to 11 points, and it seemed they would cruise to another win.
The Fever had other ideas. They were first able to hang around, then closed the game on a stunning 15-5 run. They pulled ahead for good on a layup by Aliyah Boston with two minutes to play. Clark finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, while Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith all scored in double figures. With the win, the Fever improved to 9-13 on the season and currently occupy the eighth and final playoff spot.
The game between Indiana and Chicago surely turned out to be a fiery contest. However, it was not only because the game went down to the wire but also because of the physical altercation between Chennedy Carter and Caitlin Clark.
Soon after the final buzzer, there were huge demands on social media to penalize Carter for her actions.
A account using the name of senior lead NBA Insider for the Athletic, Shams Charania was among the first to circulate the news that the league has stepped in. In an X post, the account stated that the WNBA plans to fine Carter for her on-court antics with Clark. The post says, “The WNBA says they are fining Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter, $25 dollars, for an altercation with Caitlin Clark earlier this evening, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.”

The whole discussion revolves around what transpired between Clark and Carter late in the third quarter during Saturday’s game. After connecting on her mid-range jumper, Carter charged towards Clark from behind and forcefully shouldered her to the ground as the Iowa alumnae was getting ready for the inbound pass. This was after both had a competitive back-and-forth battle for the possession seconds earlier. The away-from-the-ball call didn’t lead to a flagrant or technical foul against Chicago’s No.7.
Nonetheless, Indiana was awarded 1 free throw and the possession as is the rule when an away-from-the-ball foul is called. Clark made the free-throw, which turned out to be the final point in the quarter for either team.
Meanwhile, the 6-foot guard is trying not to let the on-court drama affect her in any way.
