Ben Affleck hits back at critics who roasted his “miserable” expression at last year’s Grammys in his new Super Bowl commercial for his beloved Dunkin’.
The ad, which Jennifer Lopez shared to Instagram Monday, opens with Affleck watching a fake news report showing the couple at the 2023 awards show with the chyron, “The boredest man in the world.”
Several commentators call out the “Argo” actor’s “bored” face, to which Affleck says to himself in a low and dark Batman-esque voice, “No. Steady. Always watching,” as he sips an iced coffee.
He then says, “I can do that” about becoming a pop star before asking, “How hard can it be?”
Affleck, 51, proceeds to hold a box of doughnuts as he calls a music producer to say he has some “beats.”
“I even have a persona like J.Lo — or B.Lo,” he tells the confused-looking producer.
In another moment, the Oscar winner is seen asking TikTok star Charli D’Amelio advice on how to dance before hilariously wondering, “Who is TikTok?”
The commercial then flashes back to the actor sitting on his couch alone in front of the TV.
“They told you you’re no good,” he says to himself. “You’re a goofy, middle-aged, clumsy white guy with no rhythm, and you can’t sing on key. You’re not coordinated.”
“That means I can’t be a pop star? Mmm. Underestimate Boston. Mmm. At your peril,” he says, placing a giant doughnut necklace around his neck.
“This is me now,” he dramatically concludes while wearing the sprinkle-covered pastry on a chain, referencing the title of his wife’s forthcoming album and film, both of which debut Feb. 16.
Several fans applauded the couple for making light of Affleck’s viral moment when he was seen looking grumpy at last year’s Grammy ceremony.
“Jlo and Ben trolling the internet kills me everytime lol,” one person commented on the post.
Another Oscar worthy performance,” a fan joked.
“Lmfaoooo!!! Why is he so freaking hilarious with these commercials he was made for this. Who is tiktok killed me,” a netizen added.
After going viral for his awards show moment, Affleck explained the reason behind his crabby facade, explaining that host Trevor Noah had caught him off guard.
“I saw [Noah approach], and I was like, ‘Oh, God,’” he told the Hollywood Reporter in March 2023.
“They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling.”
Affleck added that he was joking to the “On the Floor” singer, 54, that he was going to ditch her once the cameras went on.
“’As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor,’” he recalled telling his wife.
