Angel Reese makes history as Chicago Sky rookie follows WNBA rival Caitlin Clark by breaking record

Angel Reese makes history as Chicago Sky rookie follows WNBA rival Caitlin Clark by breaking record.

Chicago Sky sensation Angel Reese wrote herself in the WNBA history books – just a day after rival Caitlin Clark broke more new ground with the Indiana Fever.

Reese put a 13th consecutive double-double in Sunday’s clash against the Seattle Storm. That saw her break Candace Parker’s record for the most successive double-doubles in WNBA history.

Parker’s streak spanned the 2009 and 2010 seasons but Reese – the No 7 overall pick – went one better while still in her rookie year.

The former LSU star was unable to prevent the Sky from slipping to a 84-71 defeat by the Storm on Sunday night.

But Reese still put in an historic performance, amassing 17 points and 14 rebounds, a day after Clark recorded the first ever rookie triple-double in the WNBA.

Their exploits further underlined why both Reese and Clark are battling it out for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Clark, the odds-on favorite, dropped 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in an 83-78 victory over the New York Liberty.

The No 1 pick in the WNBA draft was one rebound shy of a triple-double two games earlier, during an 88-82 road victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

In a brilliant moment captured on video, Clark was praised by her head coach, before being covered in water by her Fever teammates.

‘First time for a rookie to get a triple-double in franchise history,’ Christie Sides can be heard saying, before pointing to Clark beside her.

That sparked jubilant scenes, with the team rushing over to her and emptying their water bottles over her head, much to Clark’s surprise.
