Fever Make ESPN Analysts Rethink Caitlin Clark Takes
Two prominent ESPN analysts had no choice but to praise Caitlin Clark and the Fever for their recent form.

ESPN analysts Monica McNutt and Carolyn Peck caught a lot of flak in July for not giving Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark her flowers.
McNutt selected Angel Reese for WNBA Rookie of the Year that month. Her criteria for choosing Reese over Clark was that the Sky had a better record at that point.
Peck also backed Reese for WNBA Rookie of the Year in July. Her reason for doing so was that Reese was putting up “grown woman numbers”, implying that Clark was not.
NFL legend Shannon Sharpe appeared to call both McNutt and Peck out last week because, “They’ve gone quiet now,” regarding Clark now running away with the Rookie of the Year award.
“I want y’all to have that same [energy] when y’all was talking. Don’t get mad now,” Sharpe added.
Perhaps the two ESPN analysts heard his harsh words, because the Fever’s recent performance prompted them to praise Clark and her team during an ESPN ‘WNBA Countdown’ segment on Sunday.
“I think that Indiana is a problem,” Peck responded when asked about which of the WNBA’s No. 5-7 seeds will be the most dangerous come playoff time, per Ken Swift.
“And the way that they are playing as of late when you look at the numbers of what Caitlin Clark has done, her improvement and how she has adjusted to the speed of the game,” Peck added, “She knows how to lay it out on a dime. Her court vision is impeccable.”
Peck then praised a behind-the-back pass highlight Clark had against the Los Angeles Sparks on September 4, saying, “I love it.”
McNutt then added to Peck’s sentiment, saying, “Two of those highlights were a Clark to [Aliyah] Boston connection. Those two have been the second-best scoring duo in the league behind A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young. It has been so incredibly efficient… They’ve been on terrific tears ever since the All-Star break.
“But it also looks like they’re playing with joy,” McNutt said. “They are gelling and having fun.”
It’s nice to see McNutt and Peck acknowledge how elite Clark and the Fever have been — especially because they were once reluctant to do so.

Caitlin Clark was dominant once again on Sunday night as she helped lift the Indiana Fever to a hard-fought 104–100 overtime win against the Atlanta Dream to improve to 19–17 on the season.
Clark dropped 26 points and hit four three-pointers in the win, though none were as difficult as the incredible shot she drained at the start of the fourth quarter. After using an off-ball screen to get some space, Clark hit a fading, falling three near the corner with a Dream defender draped all over her.
The degree of difficulty on Clark’s jaw-dropping shot cannot be understated. The 22-year-old showcased her devastatingly quick release in order to get the shot off over the outstretched hand of her defender, all while fading toward the corner.
Talk about an impressive bucket.
Already the record holder for the most threes in a season by a rookie, Clark is now up to 111 makes from beyond the arc this season, the most in the WNBA. This one may have been her most impressive yet.
New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu holds the record for most threes in a season with 128, which she set during the 2023 season. Clark would need to hit 17 threes over her next four games to tie Ionescu’s mark.
CBS host Gayle King corrected on air after floating Travis Kelce DNC appearance despite Chiefs’ preseason game
The names of several A-listers were mentioned as possible surprise guests on the final night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), including celebrities like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, but one NFL star linked to Swift was also floated as a potential attendee.
The only problem? He was on the sidelines somewhere else.

CBS host Gayle King said Thursday that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had “reached out” to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign with interest in attending day four of the convention.
However, the Chiefs were slated to play in their final preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium with an 8:20 p.m. kickoff time.
“The Taylor Swift rumor is interesting to me because I was told a couple of days ago that Travis Kelce also had reached out to the Harris campaign when it was first announced and said that he wanted to be here on the night that she was speaking. We’ll see if that is true,” said King.
However, she was quickly reminded by her co-hosts of Kelce’s scheduling conflict.

Both Norah O’Donnell and Nancy Cordes chimed in about Thursday night’s game against the Bears, but King was unrelenting.
“I know he has a game, but that doesn’t mean he’s playing,” she said.
King did, however, admit that the rumor could be “part of the ‘keep hope alive’ plan.”

While Kelce did not appear at the United Center in Chicago on Thursday night, he also did not play in the final preseason game. Additionally, while the NFL schedule may have thrown a wrench in Kelce’s reported intentions to appear, the DNC also threw a wrench into Chiefs fans’ TV viewing plans.
The Kansas City Star reported Thursday that the broadcast in the area was set to air on KMCI instead of the usual KSHB. However, the DNC would be airing on TV instead of football. NFL Network was also airing the game, but due to blackout restrictions, fans in Kansas City would not be able to stream the game there.
