Colin Cowherd thinks USA Basketball made a “big mistake” in leaving Caitlin Clark off the Olympic team the first time around.

Now, with Diana Taurasi’s status for Paris in some doubt due to injury, Cowherd is imploring the powers that be to remedy their error and get Clark on the squad.

“You made a big mistake the first time in not putting her on the Olympic team. Don’t double down on dumb. Get her on the team,” Cowherd argued on “The Herd” Monday. “Give us a reason to watch the Olympic women’s team. You guys’ win gold every year, your competition’s weak, you win it every year.

“Give us a reason. Quadruple your television ratings with her, promoting not only the other women on the team who can get endorsements but promoting your sport.”

Taurasi has been hampered by an ankle issue, though she did return to play for the Phoenix Mercury over the weekend.

As it stands, Clark and her fellow WNBA All-Stars are set to compete against the United States women’s national team in an exhibition matchup in Phoenix on July 20.

We’ll have to see if Clark is selected as an alternate if Taurasi can’t go. Interestingly, Team USA and Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was angered by a question about Clark and the national team before facing the rookie star and the Indiana Fever on Sunday.

However, after the game, Reeve changed her tune and gave Clark copious praise in her press conference.
